GaGa is a sport for all ages and abilities similar to dodge ball. GaGa translates to “touch-touch” in Hebrew and GaGa Ball is thought to have originated in Israel. GaGa Ball’s popularity has continued to rise in the US and is extremely popular at camps, schools and playgrounds everywhere.
We offer three sizes of modular “kits” for indoor or outdoor use. Each kit comes complete with stanchions and borders to create the GaGa Ball Pit. Each “wall” of the pit is constructed of 4′ sections of double stacked borders resulting in side panels that are 28″ high. The 28″ height allows for maximum ball rebound and easy pit entrance and exit by players.
Stanchions can be permanently anchored if desired (anchoring hardware is not included) and are PVC coated for maximum durability. We do not recommend placing the stanchions on concrete or rough surfaces, as the coating may rub off and expose the stanchion to rust. Additionally, our stanchion design keeps the pit panels raised 4″ for easier pit cleaning of debris.
Why GaGa?
GaGa ball has gained a great deal of popularity not only because it is fast paced, fun, and safe, but also because it allows everyone the chance to play! Regardless of size, speed, or any other characteristics, the game provides a level playing field to get some exercise and have a great time
How to Play
The basic objective of Gaga Ball is to eliminate all other opponents by striking them with the ball below the knee (or waist), while also avoiding being hit. You can play with any number of people, such as one on one, two on two, and so on. When multiple players are involved a second ball is typically put into play for more action. One of the essential components of the game is the pit itself. Children can use it to aid their jumps or help with dodging the ball. At the beginning, everyone has to start with one hand against the wall and chant “Ga. Ga. Go!” with the “Go!” signaling that they can go after the ball.
The game of GaGa Ball also requires that one person stand in as the referee to ensure the rules are followed by both teams. The referee begins the game by having the players touch the wall with one hand while then signaling for another player to toss the ball up in the air. Once the ball comes off of its second bounce, the game can begin! Of course, the rules can very as is the case with any playground game, and there’s no reason you can’t make your own to maximize the fun!
